OPTION 1 - 6 DAY/5 NIGHT SAFARI WILDS in the MARA and NAKURU

The Maasai Mara National Reserve lies in the southwest part of the country and is an extension of the Serengeti Plains in Tanzania. Each year the Mara is home to the annual spectacle of the Migration, and you will have the chance to look for Kenya’s famous “Big 5” – elephant, buffalo, rhino, lion and leopard.
Lake Nakuru National Park has an abundance of wildlife. The lakeshores and woodlands are also home to some four hundred kinds of bird, including flamingos.

The Kenyan Coast is one of Kenya’s biggest attractions. It offers a combination of historical sites, trading ports, superb beaches, diving and water sports. South and North of Mombasa are some of the finest beaches in Africa. Combine this with a safari experience in the Maasai Mara National Reserve where you will have the chance to see an abundance of wildlife, including the “Big 5”.

The Samburu Reserve is within the lands of the Samburu people, close relatives of the Maasai. The reserve has a number of wildlife species rarely found elsewhere. These include the Grevy's zebra, Reticulated giraffe, Blue-shanked ostrich, Gerenuk and the Beisa oryx. All these species are found only north of the equator in the wilds of Samburu.

The Amboseli National Reserve is set against the stunning backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain and boasts its “red elephants”, red because they spray themselves with the red earth to protect themselves from the sun and insects. Tsavo National Parks (East and West) are the biggest by far of Kenyan national parks and together one of the largest in the world. Tsavo West and East combined sprawl across 20,800 square kilometers of dry bush country, an area the size of Massachusetts or Wales. The biggest attraction in Tsavo West is Mzima Springs, two hundred and fifty million litres of water per day pour out here, filtered crystal clear by the lava of the Chyulu Hills range to the north. The Yatta Plateau, the world’s longest lava river, dominates Tsavo East.

Summary:
23 March 2012: Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport
24 March 2012: A quick Swahili lesson at JUE Orphanage and Primary School. Spend time with the children here playing games.
Then a visit to Oldonyo Sambu Maasai Village for a cultural tour where we will meet the Maasai leaders and learn about the Maasai traditions and way of life.
25 March 2012: Travel to the Ngorongoro Highlands and descend to the Ngorongoro Crater
26-27 March 2012: Travel to Lake Manyara National Park where we will be treated to game drives, visits to curio shops and Maasai Markets as well as other activities.
28 March 2012: Fly to Zanzibar and a guided walking tour of Stone Town
29 March 2012: Visit to a local school, followed by the Aromatic and Spices Excursion, which includes a visit to the Zanzibar Animal Affection Society (ZAASO). In the afternoon, a trip to Prison Island.
30 March 2012: A trip on a dhow, as well as opportunities for snorkelling while the dhow travels some of the beautiful uninhabited islands.
1 April 2012: Travel back to Stone Town where all delegates will have a chance to spend time at relative leisure, as well as a chance to stock up on curios and other such items at the various markets. Overnight in Stone Town before flying on to Nairobi on 2 April 2012 to join other delegates to the International Round Square Conference being held at Brookhouse School, Nairobi.
